About UMASA
UMASA is a muslim organisation for ugandan muslims living in South Africa. It
was created as a non profit making organisation founded under the basic
principals and teachings of Islam. The Organisation has its location in the heart
of Johannesburg South Africa’s Mayfair town. The organisation is one of the
fastest growing non profit making in the Entire Central and Southern Africa
Organisational Ethos
BASIC FOUNDING PRINCIPLES:
The following clause embodies the basic founding principle which shall be
permanent and entrenched. This clause may never be altered.
The basis of the functions of the Association in all its affairs is to adhere strictly
to the tenets of the Shari’ah, {Islamic Law}, as expounded by the four Sunni
juristic schools of thought viz. Hanafi, Shafi, Maliki and Hambali Schools
commonly referred to as the Ahlus Sunnah-wal-Jama’ah.
Furthermore,· the section on Masjid and Waqf properties of this association
shall be considered an immutable founding principle and shall never be subject
to sale, used for personal gain and or inherited by any one.
AFFILIATIONS:
The Association is affiliated to and where necessary work with Islamic Bodies
and individuals that subscribe to the tenets of the Shari’ah, {Islamic Law), as
expounded by the four Sunni juristic schools of thought viz.Hanafi, Shafi,
Maliki and Hambali Schools of thought commonly referred to as the Ahlus-
Sunnah-wal-Jama’ah.
The aim of such affiliation is to work towards enhancing, guiding and uplifting
of the Muslim populace.
AIMS & Objectives
Being a non-profit Islamic organization, the aims and objectives of the
Association inter aliaare:
1.
To establish, operate and maintain Masjid/s for the performance of
Congregational and other prayers and religious rites and activities.
2.
To establish, operate and maintain institutions for the dissemination of
Islamic or what is deemed as a corollary to Islamic teaching, training and
education
3.
To establish, operate and maintain other institutions that would enhance the
religious and social causes of the Muslim community such as libraries,
cemeteries, da’wah institutions, social-welfare centres, medical facilities,
Islamic centres and so forth
4.
To establish, operate and maintain institutions of the nature mentioned
above within and beyond the boundaries of Association
5.
To enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong in all facets of the Muslim
community and to actively promote and propagate Islamic teachings and to
adopt all means for the achievements of this objective in accordance with
Shari’ah
6.
To solicit for and to employ the funds of the Association in furthering the
aims and objective set out herein and for any other cause as may be
deemed appropriate in enhancing the cause of Islam and the Muslim
community. Funds solicited or received for a particular and specific cause
shall be limited to that cause unless in exceptional circumstances. In the
event of limited availability of funding, the priority of order shall be the
Masjid/s, education, or as may be deemed by the executive committee.

To co-operate with other institutions having similar aims and objectives and
affiliations

To generally deal with all matters of relevance in furthering and enhancing
the cause of Islam and the Muslim community as deemed so from time to
time.
The aims and objectives of the Association as set out herein shall in no way be
limited or restricted by reference to any other clauses in this constitution unless
otherwise indicated. The order in which the aims and objectives appear does
not determine the importance or preference thereof over each other unless
specifically stated
Policies
The organisational Policies are there to guide and ensure transparency in the
organisation as well as the organisational Hierarchy. The listed are the policies
that the Association Adheres to regarding membership and hierarchy.
Membership of the Association:
There are two levels of membership of the Association; full membership and
associate membership
FULL MEMBERSHIP:
The following conditions shall be a requisite for full membership.A full member
of the Association:
The Executive Committee
Executive committee shall comprise a dual component viz;, Committee of
Selected Officials (executive Committee)and the Board of Trustees. The
Executive committee shall hereunder be referred to as the ‘Board’.
Board of Trustees
1.
Trustees shall be selected and appointed to the board by the executive

A trustee shall be chosen due to his impeccable standing in the community
and by merit of services to the
